Blog to use as a Word Processor

Avumn Skies will be a one time adventure (or possibly a campaign) using the fourth addition D&D rules. It takes place in a hamlet named Avumn that is nestled on a floating island. Floating islands above far off and dangerous lands below. Because of the nature of the islands, a heavy emphasis on flying mounts will be a major theme for the setting. Mounts will resemble warm blooded, flying dinosaurs (for game purposes use the hippogriff and dreadmount hippogriff).

Avumn is the starting point and is small and peaceful. Technology exists, but not in abundance. A mysterious source from within the island provides a never ending stream and waterfall that powers a waterwheel. Characters are innocent for the most part and free from the touch of war or hardship. Harpies or another small invader may sometimes come about, but never a real threat. Metal is rare in these communities so gear should reflect this. The community elder is an ancient dragonborn with long useless wings. She will select and guide our heroes. The village has existed for longer than anyone can remember. The sky islands that make up the geography are numerous and come in a range of sizes. For the most part they are naturally stationary with slight shifts up and down. Wind doesn't seem to have an effect besides that of natural erosion, but doesn't effect the islands' positions.

The flying mounts are known as Pterosarums or Kitetails. They form a symbiotic relationship with the people of Avumn (and similar creatures have done so in other places). The creatures resemble flying lizards, but are warm blooded. While they exhibit intelligence, it would equate to that of a dog or horse who's habits are reflected in the Pterosarum. This means the creatures are loyal, playful, and hardworking. They range in color from greys to browns, often with red or yellow accents. Their nickname derives from the fanlike component on the end of their tails that they use for balance and to help them move through the air.
The surface world is one of mystery. No one of Avumn has ever heard of anyone going to the surface and even in busy ports it is hard to find a story of anyone who tries it and comes back. The surface looks pleasant enough in places although often rocky or desolate. The atmosphere of this world is very saturated and a day without clouds is unheard of, so glimpses of the surface are uncommon. Some stories say that the surface is poisonous and any man that lands will die shortly after. Others say that the surface is actually something called a swamp and not a surface at all, but a vast ocean that one would instantly sink to the bottom of should one go there. Dark tales speak of vast and terrible creatures that live there and would surely gobble up anyone foolish enough to land.
